Disrupting the premium ice cream business

What in the name of Mike does over-the-air (OTA) software updates and IoT (Internet of Things) device management have to do with the wonderful world of fwip? A heck of a lot, as fwip’s chief technical officer Peter Schenkel, explained to the aptly-named Device Chronicle.  

IoT is great. So is OTA. So why isn’t every machine in the retail environment making use of the super-duper tech behind these three letter acronyms?

Because no other brand is in the business of disrupting the premium ice cream vending business.

Sure, we’ve had a couple of (non-ice cream induced) hiccups. But now fwip has teamed up with Mender, we’re pretty confident in our ability to build out at scale.

The friendly face of retail IoT

Whether inside one of the big supermarkets, fwip machines represent more than premium ice-cream on-demand, they’re the friendly face of retail IoT.

With 500 units installed and 500 more being rolled out across retail, cafes, restaurants and leisure locations, trustworthy tech has become increasingly important for fwip’s pioneering ice-cream and sorbet self-serve machines. But if IoT’s going to ensure fwip customers see a healthy ROI, it’s got to be reliable and secure.

Going deep in device management

Peter points to a lack of understanding in many organisations about device management. Because their lack of knowledge could be missing a trick when it comes to data mining and customer insights. Which flavours are selling? Do warmer days increase sales? That kind of information can be easily gleaned from understanding how the tech works.

Ultimately, in fwip’s business model an ice-cream self-serve station reliably connected to IoT can offer data-driven insights that can boost sales, and ensure devices are secure and fault-free for customers and consumers.

And as long as they keep pumping out fwipping delish ice cream, everybody’s happy.
